PUNTARENAS
Tradicionalmente
llamada la Perla del Pacífico por su valor estratégico en la geografía
de Costa Rica, Puntarenas tiene
infinitas playas a lo largo de su extenso litoral marítimo, algunas muy
visitadas y alegres, otras solitarias e íntimas, tiene paradisíacas
islas y parques nacionales, muelle donde arriban los cruceros, terminales
de transportes a todos los destinos, centros educativos, de salud,
comercio y de gobierno así como una variada agenda cultural y deportiva
entre la que se destaca los carnavales en Febrero de cada año.
By
tradition, Puntarenas is called The Pacific Pearl, due to its strategic
geographic location. It has infinite beaches along the vast ocean
shores, some are crowded and fun while others are solitary and intimate.
With islands and national parks captured from paradise; cruise ship
piers; bus and ferry terminals that go to all destinations; centers for
education, health and business; and government offices; Puntarenas has
much to offer including a complete schedule of cultural and sport
activities. One of the favorites being the Carnival Parade, held
every year in February.

for ferry use:
When
you arrive at the ferry port of Puntarenas, Paquera or Naranjo, you first must
be sure your vehicle is in the line for the ferry of your destination. A ferry
representative will distribute a token to the drivers of vehicles in the line.
The driver must take this token and purchase a boarding ticket at the ticket
office (boletería).
Vehicles
have priority over foot passengers, so drivers can go directly to the head of
the line. The driver can also purchase tickets for all of the passengers
traveling in the vehicle at the same time. A ticket purchased for the vehicle
includes the driver and note the price differences for adults and children. You
should follow this process yourself and not allow any intermediaries loitering
in the area to make the ticket purchase for you.
As
you board, only the driver remains in the vehicle and the passengers must walk
into the ferry. Ferry employees will tear off the stub of you ticket, direct you
into the ferry and show you where to park your vehicle.
At
night, please use only your parking lights or low beam so you do not blind the
ferry employees. Put on your emergency brake and remember where your vehicle is
parked. The motor must remain turned off until the ferry reaches the destination
port.
The driver must return to the vehicle as it reaches port and is the only person allowed in the vehicle at disembarkation. Passengers walk off and meet the driver and vehicle beyond the terminal.
